Life can be cruel sometimes, and so many in this business work through it...from an LA morning man who I heard on the air as his son went to be tested for cancer to the PD I was with yesterday, in the office the day after his mom had colon cancer surgery...we all try and work through it. Yes, our jobs and our ratings are important, but you are so right, family and friends are what life is all about! That was so well said. I suspect this guy was much older, which doesn't excuse his behavior one bit. He may have come from a time long ago when a woman was rare in a B2B sales situation. But the rest of the world has had plenty of time to get used to men and women working together as equals. He's obsolete. Since good sales folks are doing a favor for the customers who buy from them, it serves this moron right that he lost a good sales rep over this incident. She's right to move on. If a man is trying to close a deal with another man, and the potential buyer starts getting abusive, that sales rep has a right to walk away from the deal for the exact same reason. This is not a sex thing; It's a stupid person thing. That being said, I also know at least one 'old school' female sales rep who still uses 'sex to make the sale' and that's equally wrong. If a male buyer runs into a provocatively dressed female sales rep who starts flirting and teasing, his best move is to walk away. That's not an easy thing for the average guy to do, but it's exactly what needs to happen. There is much to be disgusted about right now, from the out of control ways of Wall Street, to the disgraceful gambling actions of big banks using the American people as their backstop, jobs sent overseas, two wars without end, an underclass of people without enough to eat, etc. Throw the bums out, indeed. However, it should also be noted that for much of the last decade the same people who RIGHT NOW are saying "throw the bums out" were the EXACT SAME people cheerleading tax cuts for the wealthiest few without paying for them, cheerleading the rising debt ("deficits don't matter" vp cheney famously uttered), not paying for the wars we were fighting, or the prescription benefits for seniors, and much of the other things that are irritating the "throw the bums out" crowd today. Leads you to think all their anger is really more about politics. When it was "their side" doing the bad deeds, they were mum. Now there is what i like to call "the outrage of the day"—Obama bowed to a foreign leader. Obama wants death panels. Obama won't call the shooter at Ft. Hood a Muslim terrorist, etc, etc. Something different every day. So even when there is the strong leadership that lee i. asks for, 40% of the political class wants nothing more than to bring him and his administration down—from day one—without any constructive new ideas, save for "we need tax cuts and less regulations"... all that said, i agree. let's go out and get something CONSTRUCTIVE done and start turning things around.
